Clavamox is a potentiated penicillin used for infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is available as 62.5mg, 125mg, 250mg and 375mg tablets as well as drops containing 62.5mg/1ml. When mixed with water the drops should be stored in the refrigerator and the unused portion discarded after 14 days. The usual dose for dogs and cats is 6.25mg/pound by mouth every 12 hours. Each tablet contains 200 mg sulfadimethoxine and 40 mg ormetoprim Caution Do not use in dogs allergic to this medication or other sulfonamides. Do not use in dogs with liver damage or blood dyscrasias. Dogs must maintain adequate fluid intake. The safety in breeding dogs has not been established. Dosage Administer an initial oral dose of 25 mg/lb (55 mg/kg) of body weight on the first day of treatment. Administer subsequent daily doses at the rate of 12.5 mg/lb (27.5 mg/kg) of body weight.
